SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 771
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Lee F. Jackson, who is retiring after 15 years of
  exceptional service as chancellor of the University of North
  Texas System; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson joined the University of North Texas
  System as chancellor in 2002 after a long and distinguished
  career in public service that saw him serve five terms in the
  Texas House of Representatives and four terms as Dallas County
  judge; he was named to Texas Monthly's "Ten Best Legislators"
  list in 1983 and was instrumental in the passage of numerous
  infrastructure development bonds and the advancement of other
  improvements and programs throughout Dallas County; and
         WHEREAS, Under his outstanding leadership, the University
  of North Texas System has undergone unprecedented growth;
  four-year and five-year graduation rates have increased
  dramatically and the number of degrees awarded each year has
  nearly doubled; the University of North Texas was named a Tier
  One research university by the Carnegie Endowment, and the
  system's annual research investment has gone from $28 million to
  $68 million; and
         WHEREAS, During Mr. Jackson's tenure, the University of
  North Texas at Dallas opened as the first public university
  within the city, and he has been an ardent supporter of its new
  law school; he also oversaw the creation of new professional
  programs in engineering, pharmacy, and medicine, as well as the
  expansion of the University of North Texas Health Science Center
  in Fort Worth; and
         WHEREAS, An exemplary educator and administrator, he is
  respected and admired by faculty and students alike, and his
  presence as chancellor of the University of North Texas System
  will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby commend Chancellor Lee F. Jackson on his
  exceptional career as chancellor of the University of North Texas
  System and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all
  his future endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
