Renato E. Cardenas |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|
citizens of Brownsville in mourning the loss of Renato E. |
|
Cardenas, who died April 21, 2017, at the age of 86; and |
|
WHEREAS, Renato Cardenas was born on December 8, 1930, in |
|
Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico; he moved to Brownsville at the age |
|
of 11 to live with his aunt, and he attended Brownsville public |
|
schools; and |
|
WHEREAS, Renato joined the United States Air Force as a |
|
young man; he served with distinction during the Korean conflict, |
|
and he completed his military service having earned the rank of |
|
staff sergeant; he graduated from Texas Southmost College and |
|
also attended Pan American University in Edinburg; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Cardenas had a rewarding career as an |
|
entrepreneur and found notable success in both real estate |
|
development and automotive sales; he began developing |
|
subdivisions in Brownsville in 1969 and later established |
|
Cardenas Development Company, Incorporated; he opened an |
|
automotive dealership in 1971, and today, the Cardenas Group of |
|
automotive dealerships includes locations in Harlingen and |
|
Raymondville; and |
|
WHEREAS, Renato Cardenas was a generous man who worked |
|
tirelessly on behalf of his community; he served as a Brownsville |
|
city commissioner for a number of years, and he was a cofounder of |
|
Valley Community Hospital, the Brownsville Foundation for Health |
|
and Education, and Sunrise Bank; he served on the boards of |
|
numerous professional and civic organizations, and he was a |
|
member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church for 50 years; and |
|
WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Mr. Cardenas shared 61 years |
|
of marriage with Mary Rose Cardenas, and they were blessed with |
|
five children, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; |
|
he was beloved by many, and he leaves behind memories that will |
|
long be cherished by all who were privileged to share in his life; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
family of Renato E. Cardenas; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Renato Cardenas. |
