Hazel Ruth Preston Bassett |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
commemorates the life of Hazel Ruth Preston Bassett, who died |
|
March 27, 2017, at the age of 102; and |
|
WHEREAS, Hazel Bassett was born on July 31, 1914, to |
|
William and Georgia Preston, in the Comyn community; she lived |
|
most of her life in DeLeon, where she was widely respected and |
|
admired for her talents and achievements; and |
|
WHEREAS, She married the late Walton T. Bassett on |
|
December 21, 1934; they raised two daughters together, Shirley and |
|
Jolene, and she was blessed with many grandchildren and |
|
great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Bassett worked as a clerk and an operator for |
|
the DeLeon Telephone Company for nearly four decades and was |
|
active in a number of community organizations, including the |
|
Women's Division of the DeLeon Chamber of Commerce; she was a |
|
Worthy Matron in the local chapter of the Order of the Eastern |
|
Star; and |
|
WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced her faith in her |
|
daily life, she was a member for more than 80 years of First |
|
Baptist Church; she was a skilled seamstress and a talented cook, |
|
and she took great pleasure in traveling with her family and |
|
playing bridge with her friends; and |
|
WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and compassion, she |
|
gave generously to others, and her warmth and her enthusiasm for |
|
living each day to the fullest will not be forgotten by those who |
|
were privileged to share in her life; and |
|
WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, |
|
and she leaves behind memories that will be cherished forever by |
|
her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
family of Hazel Ruth Preston Bassett; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Hazel Ruth Preston Bassett. |
