SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 586
         WHEREAS, Members of Leadership Mesquite are visiting the
  State Capitol on April 11 and 12, 2017, and this occasion provides a
  fitting opportunity to recognize this notable group; and
         WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce,
  Leadership Mesquite was created to educate civic-minded
  individuals about city, county, and state government; the course
  lasts nine months and involves citizens representing a wide range
  of backgrounds and perspectives; and
         WHEREAS, Leadership Mesquite works in cooperation with
  such entities as the Mesquite Economic Development Board, the
  Dallas County Commissioners Court, the Mesquite Independent
  School District, and Eastfield College to sponsor different
  programs every month to help members gain a better understanding
  of the community; and
         WHEREAS, Each Leadership Mesquite class chooses a special
  project to benefit the community; this year, the group is working
  with Read Play Talk, a research-based community-supported
  initiative to champion early childhood literacy among Mesquite
  Independent School District students; and
         WHEREAS, Through its efforts to promote a spirit of
  volunteerism and community pride, Leadership Mesquite is
  fostering an informed and engaged citizenry, and the program is
  helping to build a brighter and more prosperous future for the
  Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby recognize April 11 and 12, 2017, as
  Leadership Mesquite Days at the State Capitol and extend to all
  those participating sincere best wishes for a memorable and
  enjoyable visit.
