SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 518
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  James Michael Walker
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of James Michael Walker, who died March 6,
  2017, at the age of 79; and
         WHEREAS, Jim Walker was born on May 28, 1937, in Temple, to
  James and Gertrude Walker; except for a brief time in Houston, he
  was a longtime resident of Temple; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of his professional career, he
  worked with Farmers Insurance and the New York Life Insurance
  Company; he also served the country as a special agent with the
  United States Department of the Treasury; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Walker strongly believed in the importance of
  education and served as a teacher for the Ralph Wilson Youth
  Clubs of Temple and as a substitute teacher for the Temple and
  Killeen school districts; he shared his love of science with
  young people by making scientific devices and showing them at
  area science fairs and museums; and
         WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced his faith in his
  daily life, he was a longtime member of Jehovah's Witnesses, and
  he served as an elder in his local congregation; and
         WHEREAS, He and his beloved wife, Dortha Lee Taylor Walker,
  enjoyed 55 years of marriage together, and his three children
  were a source of much pride and joy; and
         WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
  gavegenerouslytoothers,andhiswisdom,warmth,andvalued
  counsel will not be forgotten by those who were privileged to
  share in his life; and
         WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband and father, and he leaves
  behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and
  many friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of James Michael Walker; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Jim Walker.
