James Michael Walker |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
commemorates the life of James Michael Walker, who died March 6, |
|
2017, at the age of 79; and |
|
WHEREAS, Jim Walker was born on May 28, 1937, in Temple, to |
|
James and Gertrude Walker; except for a brief time in Houston, he |
|
was a longtime resident of Temple; and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the course of his professional career, he |
|
worked with Farmers Insurance and the New York Life Insurance |
|
Company; he also served the country as a special agent with the |
|
United States Department of the Treasury; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Walker strongly believed in the importance of |
|
education and served as a teacher for the Ralph Wilson Youth |
|
Clubs of Temple and as a substitute teacher for the Temple and |
|
Killeen school districts; he shared his love of science with |
|
young people by making scientific devices and showing them at |
|
area science fairs and museums; and |
|
WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced his faith in his |
|
daily life, he was a longtime member of Jehovah's Witnesses, and |
|
he served as an elder in his local congregation; and |
|
WHEREAS, He and his beloved wife, Dortha Lee Taylor Walker, |
|
enjoyed 55 years of marriage together, and his three children |
|
were a source of much pride and joy; and |
|
WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he |
|
gavegenerouslytoothers,andhiswisdom,warmth,andvalued |
|
counsel will not be forgotten by those who were privileged to |
|
share in his life; and |
|
WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband and father, and he leaves |
|
behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and |
|
many friends; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
family of James Michael Walker; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Jim Walker. |
