SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 440
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  join the citizens of Stephenville in celebrating March 21, 2017,
  as Stephenville Day at the State Capitol; and
 
         WHEREAS, Stephenville, the seat of Erath County, is a
  vibrant community in North Central Texas; the city has
  experienced a 30 percent growth in population since 2000 and is
  currently home to more than 22,500 residents; and
 
         WHEREAS, The Stephenville community is a popular Texas hub
  for cowboys and cowgirls; relative to size, the city hosts one of
  the largest populations of these professionals, and it has become
  known as the "Cowboy Capital of the World"; and
 
         WHEREAS, Although cowboy culture is a driving force of the
  city, Stephenville also boasts a flourishing academic community;
  Tarleton State University contributes greatly to the economic
  stability of the region, with approximately 9,600 students and
  925 full-time faculty and staff members who reside in the
  community; and
 
         WHEREAS, The people of Stephenville have worked hard to
  sustain their vibrant community over the years, and they can
  indeed look forward to a bright and prosperous future while
  embracing their rich and colorful past; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Stephenville for
  their many contributions to our state and extend to them best
  wishes in all their future endeavors; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the city as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
