SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 347
         WHEREAS, February 2, 2017, marks the 100th anniversary of
  the first patient of Robert B. Green Memorial Hospital in Bexar
  County, a health care facility named in honor of the Bexar County
  judge and Texas state senator who was a beloved champion of the
  working class; and
         WHEREAS, The Robert B. Green Memorial Hospital served all
  persons who needed it, regardless of their ability to pay, proved
  invaluable during the influenza epidemic of 1918, and soon after
  earned recognition for its pioneering specialty care; and
         WHEREAS, When the voters of Bexar County overwhelmingly
  approved the creation of the Bexar County Hospital District in
  1955, the Robert B. Green Memorial Hospital became the anchor
  facility for the hospital district's mission to furnish medical
  aid and hospital care to the indigent and needy persons of Bexar
  County; and
         WHEREAS, In 1968, with the construction of a new teaching
  hospital adjacent to The University of Texas Medical School at
  San Antonio, the Robert B. Green Memorial Hospital was
  transformed into the hub of the hospital district's growing
  ambulatory health system, providing advanced imaging, laboratory,
  and pharmacy services, in addition to primary and specialty
  clinics; and
         WHEREAS, In 2008, to continue the legacy of the Robert
  B. Green Memorial Hospital, the Bexar County commissioners
  approved the issuance of certificates of obligation to support
  the construction of a new state-of-the-art ambulatory services
  pavilion adjacent to the historic facility; and
         WHEREAS, In January 2013, a new 269,000-square-foot,
  six-story Clinical Pavilion on the historic Robert B. Green
  Campus opened, featuring urgent care, adult and pediatric
  primary care and specialty care, comprehensive laboratory
  services, pharmacy, and imaging diagnostics, including CT, MRI,
  mammography, X-ray, and ultrasound; and
         WHEREAS, The Bexar County Hospital District, now doing
  business as University Health System, is today a nationally
  recognized academic health center and network of more than 20
  primary care, urgent care, specialty, and school-based health
  centers and is ranked the Best Hospital in San Antonio and No. 6
  in Texas by U.S. News & World Report; and
         WHEREAS, University Health System is an integral partner
  of the State of Texas in providing emergency preparedness and
  trauma services for South Central Texas at its premier Level I
  Trauma Center and the only Level I Pediatric Trauma Center in
  South Texas; and
         WHEREAS, University Health System is the primary partner
  of UT Health San Antonio for providing graduate medical education
  and advancing knowledge and discovery to promote the good health
  of Texans; and
         WHEREAS, This occasion presents a welcome opportunity to
  recognize the rich historical legacy of the lifesaving mission
  that started with the admission of that first patient at the
  Robert B. Green Memorial Hospital in February 1917; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of the
  founding of Robert B. Green Memorial Hospital and commend the board
  of managers and leadership of University Health System for their
  work in carrying forth the legacy of county judge Robert B. Green
  and the Robert B. Green Memorial Hospital; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby urge the board of managers and leadership of
  University Health System to continue the legacy of Judge Green by
  providing the highest level of care, service, and compassion to
  the people of Bexar County for the next 100 years.
