SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 29
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Garrison Good Card
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Garrison Good Card, who died October 4,
  2016, at the age of 88; and
         WHEREAS, Garrison Good Card was born on May 10, 1928, in
  Port-au-Prince, Haiti; her father was a lieutenant general in the
  United States Marine Corps, and she grew up living in military
  posts around the world; and
         WHEREAS, She was married for 61 years to the late H. W.
  Card Jr., who retired from the United States Marine Corps with
  the rank of colonel; they raised four children together, and she
  was blessed with six grandchildren and numerous
  great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, She devoted her life to her family and worked
  tirelessly to ensure its togetherness; she even organized a move
  to Taiwan during one of her husband's deployments so that they
  could all remain together; and
         WHEREAS, The family moved to Harlingen in 1968, and she
  quickly grew to love the Rio Grande Valley; an astute
  businesswoman, she was instrumental in establishing the
  country's first E. F. Hutton Financial Services office, and she
  later created her own firm, the Card Investment Group, with her
  son; she was active in a wide range of philanthropic efforts; and
         WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and compassion, she
  gave generously to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and valued
  counsel will not be forgotten; and
         WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother,
  and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
  her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Garrison Good Card; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Garrison Card.
