R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, In facing her battle with cancer, Catherine Nance
  has demonstrated extraordinary courage, humor, grace, and tenacity
  and has served as an inspiring role model to all around her; and
         WHEREAS, In 2015, Ms. Nance was diagnosed with stage four
  colon cancer; the discovery of her illness marked the beginning of
  an arduous course of treatment that has tested her limits
  physically and mentally; throughout this difficult time, she has
  been sustained by the support and encouragement of her husband,
  Scott, and she has given her all as mother to her two young
  children, Amy and Owen; and
         WHEREAS, Having initially been refused testing for colon
  cancer from doctors who believed she was too young to have the
  disease, Ms. Nance now serves as a passionate advocate for early
  screening; she has also made it her mission to speak out as a
  citizen on issues of vital concern and has traveled around the
  country in support of common-sense gun control measures; she has
  lobbied, marched, and made phone calls to her representatives even
  while undergoing chemotherapy treatment, and she has instilled in
  her children an appreciation for the importance of voting and civic
  engagement; and
         WHEREAS, While enduring challenges well beyond the
  capabilities of most, Catherine Nance has dedicated herself
  ceaselessly to making a difference, and her story is a compelling
  reminder of the true strength and resilience of the human spirit;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Catherine Nance for her heroic advocacy
  efforts during her battle against cancer and extend to her and her
  loved ones sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Nance as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
