R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, An accomplished educator received well-deserved
  recognition when Josey Mitchell was named the 2016-2017 Teacher of
  the Year at Coronado High School in El Paso; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Mitchell combines her passions for education
  and the arts through her work as the director of the Coronado High
  Dance Department and the school's dance company; a nine-year
  veteran of the teaching profession, she is a member of the Texas
  Dance Educators Association and the National Dance Education
  Organization, and she was awarded a Classroom Fund Community Impact
  Grant from the El Paso Community Foundation in 2016; and
         WHEREAS, A proud El Paso native, Ms. Mitchell began taking
  ballet lessons at age four and continued to hone her craft
  throughout her youth; after graduating from Montwood High School in
  2001, she went on to earn her bachelor's degree in arts and dance
  and her master's degree in education at The University of Texas at
  El Paso, where she is currently working toward a doctoral degree in
  teaching, learning, and culture; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Mitchell has performed with Viva! El Paso,
  Ballet El Paso, the UTEP Ballet, the Caldo Collective, the
  Tumbleweed Collective, and the Tom Lea Institute, and she has
  served as both a performer and choreographer for the UTEP Dinner
  Theatre, the El Paso Opera, and the El Paso Independent School
  District Summer Musical; and
         WHEREAS, Josey Mitchell exemplifies the passion,
  determination, and innovative spirit that are the hallmarks of our
  best teachers, and she has set a standard of excellence to which all
  in her profession may aspire; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Josey Mitchell on her selection as
  the 2016-2017 Teacher of the Year at Coronado High School and extend
  to her sincere best wishes for continued success with her important
  work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Mitchell as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
