R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, David A. Byrnes retired as sheriff of Kaufman County |
|
on December 31, 2016, drawing to a close 16 years of distinguished |
|
service in that office; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Byrnes began his career in law enforcement as a |
|
patrol deputy for the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office in 1969; the |
|
following year, he accepted a post with the Texas Department of |
|
Public Safety, and he worked as a highway patrolman in Pecos, |
|
Denton, and Fort Davis before joining the Texas Rangers Division in |
|
1979; he went on to earn promotion to lieutenant and then captain, |
|
and he ably served as the task force commander in charge of the |
|
Branch Davidian investigation in Waco in 1993; and |
|
WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan retired from the rangers in |
|
1996, and in 2000 he was elected as Kaufman County sheriff; in that |
|
role, he ably executed his many duties, and his outstanding efforts |
|
garnered him the respect and loyalty of area voters, who returned |
|
him to office for three additional terms; and |
|
WHEREAS, David Byrnes exemplified the highest ideals of his |
|
profession throughout a career that spanned nearly half a century, |
|
and in so doing, he immeasurably contributed to the many |
|
communities in which he served; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate David A. Byrnes on his retirement |
|
as sheriff of Kaufman County and extend to him sincere best wishes |
|
for continued happiness and fulfillment; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Byrnes as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
