R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, During a recent water emergency in Corpus Christi,
  the men and women of the San Antonio Water System provided crucial
  assistance to their fellow Texans in need; and
         WHEREAS, In mid-December 2016, the use of water from the
  public utility of Corpus Christi was banned for fear of
  contamination by industrial chemicals, and for four days, some
  330,000 area residents could not use tap water to drink, cook,
  bathe, or wash their clothes; and
         WHEREAS, In response to this dire situation, SAWS joined
  other organizations and communities from across the state and
  beyond to help; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of the crisis, SAWS provided two
  tanker trucks for the Driscoll Children's Hospital, one providing
  clean water to keep the intensive care and dialysis units running,
  while the other ran back and forth to San Antonio to resupply it;
  and
         WHEREAS, In addition, crews from SAWS assisted in flushing
  the city's water system to clear it of potential contaminants; each
  team worked its regular shift in San Antonio, then drove to Corpus
  Christi afterward to work through the night; and
         WHEREAS, When the welfare of their neighbors to the south was
  in jeopardy, the employees of SAWS came to their aid with
  generosity, skill, and expedience, and they are truly deserving of
  special recognition; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend the San Antonio Water System for its
  efforts in behalf of the people of Corpus Christi and extend sincere
  gratitude to all those who gave so generously of their time,
  expertise, and energy to this endeavor, including chair of the SAWS
  Board of Trustees Berto Guerra, SAWS CEO Robert R. Puente, San
  Antonio mayor Ivy Taylor, Monty McGuffin, Tom Gonzales, Adolph
  Pacheco, Joseph Rangel, Shawn Dorn, Jesus Ramon, Antonio Aguilar,
  Ernest Tijerina, and Erick Salazar; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the San Antonio Water System as an expression of high
  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
