R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Senior Jacob Rodriguez capped off an outstanding
  record of athletic achievement at Tuloso-Midway High School in
  Corpus Christi with a first-place finish at the 2017 Texas High
  School Powerlifting Association State Meet, held on March 25 in
  Abilene; and
         WHEREAS, In an exceptional show of strength and
  determination, Mr. Rodriguez tallied 1,860 pounds to claim the
  Division 1 title in the 275-pound weight class; his total included
  lifts of 430 pounds in the bench press, 610 pounds in the dead lift,
  and a record-breaking 820 pounds in the squat, in which he outlifted
  his nearest rival by 95 pounds; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Rodriguez's impressive showing at the state
  contest was the latest in a series of triumphs throughout his high
  school career; after narrowly missing qualifying for the regional
  powerlifting meet as a freshman, he returned as a sophomore to
  advance all the way to state, and over the past two years, he has
  added a number of invitational meet victories, as well as
  back-to-back regional championships, to his list of
  accomplishments; and
         WHEREAS, This talented student-athlete has also
  distinguished himself on the gridiron, where he showed versatility
  as both an offensive and a defensive lineman, and he further proved
  himself a leader on the Warrior football team by serving as a
  captain during his junior and senior years; he was twice named an
  All-District Second Team guard, and he received All-District First
  Team honors for the 2016-2017 season; and
         WHEREAS, Through his skill, determination, and commitment to
  excellence, Jacob Rodriguez has become a source of great pride to
  his school and to his many supporters in the local community, and he
  may indeed look forward to a future bright with promise; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Jacob Rodriguez on his many
  athletic achievements and extend to him sincere best wishes for the
  future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Rodriguez as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
