R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Evelyn Barnett has served with distinction as |
|
Democratic Party precinct chair of Precinct 2050 in Fort Bend |
|
County for the past 42 years; and |
|
WHEREAS, Precinct chairs are integral to the success of their |
|
party's mission to elect public servants who will build a better |
|
state and nation for today's citizenry and for generations to come; |
|
they represent their precinct on the County Executive Committee, |
|
bridge the gap between voters and elected officials, and serve as a |
|
point of contact for the Democratic Party on the local level; and |
|
WHEREAS, Because public policy affects our daily lives, |
|
individuals must exercise their right to vote, and precinct chairs |
|
play an important role in the election process; their efforts to |
|
inspire voters to support their party's candidates are part of a |
|
proud and vital political tradition; and |
|
WHEREAS, It is most appropriate that we take this opportunity |
|
to recognize an outstanding Texan who has distinguished herself as |
|
the longest continuously serving Democratic Party precinct chair in |
|
the history of the county, having devoted more than four decades of |
|
her life to such party goals as achieving economic equality, |
|
ensuring an affordable college education, and advancing a more just |
|
and inclusive society; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend Evelyn Barnett for her 42 years of |
|
service as Democratic Party precinct chair of Precinct 2050 in Fort |
|
Bend County and extend to this dedicated community leader sincere |
|
best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Barnett as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
