R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Haltom City Senior Center is commemorating its
  40th year of operation in May 2017, and this occasion provides a
  fitting opportunity to recognize this outstanding community
  resource and those who have contributed to its success; and
         WHEREAS, Built with funds provided by the Federal Community
  Development Act, the Haltom City Senior Center opened on May 8,
  1977, under the oversight of Tarrant County; today, seniors from 16
  different cities come to enjoy a variety of enriching activities,
  including arts, crafts, fitness, painting, tai chi, bingo,
  quilting, billiards, and computer classes, all of which are taught
  by senior volunteers; over 200 community partners sponsor events
  and entertainment for the center, and educational and safety
  presentations are hosted regularly by the Haltom City Police and
  Fire Departments and other organizations; and
         WHEREAS, Through a partnership with the Tarrant Area Food
  Bank and Father's Heart Ministry, the Haltom City Senior Center
  hosts monthly food distributions for area residents, and it serves
  as a congregate meal site, providing meals to an average of 89
  visitors daily; as a recognized Benefits Enrollment Center, it also
  has a social worker on site to connect clients with housing,
  medication, and utility assistance benefits; and
         WHEREAS, The Haltom City Senior Center relies on the hard
  work of a number of staff and volunteers, and deserving of special
  recognition for her dedicated service is supervisor Bobbi Arthur,
  who celebrated her 24th anniversary with the center on April 30; and
         WHEREAS, Since its founding, the Haltom City Senior Center
  has encouraged older Texans in the area to maintain healthy
  lifestyles and enjoy fulfillment through fellowship and
  recreation, and it has made a positive and lasting difference in the
  Haltom City community and beyond; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the Haltom City Senior Center on its 40th
  anniversary and extend to all those associated with the program
  sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the center as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
