R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Paul Harasim has built a remarkable career in
  journalism spanning more than five decades; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Flint, Michigan, Mr. Harasim attended
  Flint Junior College, where he served as editor of the student
  newspaper, and went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Alma College
  and a master's degree from the University of Cincinnati; he
  answered his nation's call to duty during the Vietnam War as a
  member of the United States Army; and
         WHEREAS, Early in his career, Mr. Harasim gained experience
  covering the Vietnam War for military publications, and he has
  since been employed by a variety of media institutions around the
  country, including the Houston Post, where he was a lead columnist,
  and the Las Vegas Review-Journal, which he currently serves as a
  medical reporter; he has also worked as head of communications for
  both the University of St. Thomas and St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital
  in Houston and as an adjunct professor of journalism at Texas
  Southern University and an adjunct professor of public relations at
  UST; moreover, he is the author of the 1993 book Standing Tall,
  which has been translated into Chinese; and
         WHEREAS, Widely admired in his profession, Mr. Harasim has
  garnered recognition from a host of notable organizations,
  including the Associated Press, the Press Club of Dallas, the
  Nevada Press Association, the Best of the West, the Public
  Relations Society of America, and the Houston Press Club, which
  selected him as PR Communicator of the Year five consecutive times;
  and
         WHEREAS, For over half a century, this accomplished
  journalist has informed and enlightened readers with his insight
  into a breadth of important issues, and he has set a standard of
  professional excellence to which others may aspire; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Paul Harasim for his outstanding career in
  journalism and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Harasim as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
