R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Mike Manning retired as chief of the Weatherford
  Police Department on March 24, 2017, drawing to a close an exemplary
  career in law enforcement that spanned nearly four decades; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Fort Worth, Mike Manning joined the
  police department there in 1978; he won steady promotions through
  the ranks to become deputy chief in 2002, and he commanded numerous
  units, including patrol, criminal investigations, SWAT, traffic,
  vice, narcotics, gang, intelligence, and homeland security; he
  retired from the FWPD in January 2009 and took command of the
  Weatherford Police Department the following month; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan holds a bachelor's degree in
  criminal justice from Texas Wesleyan University, and he graduated
  from the Southern Police Institute of the University of Louisville;
  he has held membership in the National Tactical Officers
  Association, the Texas Police Association, the Texas Police Chiefs
  Association, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police;
  in recognition of his outstanding performance on the job, he was
  named the 1997 Fort Worth Police Department Command Officer of the
  Year, and he received the Fort Worth Police Commendation Award in
  2000 and the Weatherford Meritorious Service Award in 2012; and
         WHEREAS, Chief Manning further lends his time and talents to
  the Parker County community, where he has resided since 1986; he has
  been involved with a number of local sports associations and civic
  groups, and he is a congregant of First United Methodist Church; in
  all his endeavors, he has enjoyed the love and support of his wife,
  Kathy, and he is the proud father of two children, Stephanie and
  Kevin; and
         WHEREAS, Chief Manning's commitment to the highest standards
  of his profession has greatly benefited his fellow citizens and
  earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues, and he may
  indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as he embarks on
  the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Mike Manning on his retirement as
  chief of the Weatherford Police Department and extend to him
  sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Chief Manning as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
