H.R. No. 1389

	R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, For 50 years, residents of Austin have come together
	to celebrate their faith at Northwest Hills United Methodist
	Church; and
	WHEREAS, In 1966, the Austin district Methodist mission board
	purchased three and a half acres of land, and the church was
	officially founded on February 26 of the following year with a
	charter membership of 104 congregants; services were initially held
	at the Highland Park School until the church settled into its first
	sanctuary in 1971; and
	WHEREAS, Since its establishment, Northwest Hills UMC has
	played a vital role in the community, providing its members with
	myriad opportunities for spiritual growth, fellowship, and
	outreach; the church hosts Boy Scout Troop 3, offers after-school
	care and tutoring programs, and organizes a number of annual
	holiday events for local residents; and
	WHEREAS, The congregation has benefited from the able
	leadership of many dedicated pastors, and today that tradition of
	service is continued by the Reverend Laura Brewster; and
	WHEREAS, Northwest Hills United Methodist Church has long
	served as a source of inspiration and guidance to those who worship
	there, and its continued existence is a testament to the unwavering
	commitment of its members and clergy, both past and present; now,
	therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
	Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of Northwest
	Hills United Methodist Church and extend to the congregation
	sincere best wishes for many more years of shared prayer and
	fellowship; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
	prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas
	House of Representatives.
