R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Officer Don Shipp of the Fort Worth Police
  Department is serving as an inspiring role model for many young men
  in his community through his work with the Boys of Valor Club at
  Manuel Jara Elementary School; and
         WHEREAS, Boys of Valor stands for "Boys who Value Academics,
  Leadership, Obedience, and Respect"; the club was founded by the
  school principal, Marta Plata, as a program for boys in the fifth
  grade with the goal of encouraging positive behaviors and reducing
  bullying, gang recruitment, and disrespect for teachers; and
         WHEREAS, In support of this worthwhile effort, Officer Shipp
  and two of his fellow FWPD officers visit the school weekly to speak
  to the club's members about leadership and to engage participants
  in a game of football or basketball; the officers occasionally have
  lunch with the students as well, and they have also helped to
  deliver Christmas trees during the holiday season and participated
  in bicycle raffles; and
         WHEREAS, A 22-year veteran of the department, Officer Shipp
  currently serves with the North Division and is assigned to the
  Stockyards neighborhood; in addition to mentoring through the Boys
  of Valor Club, this esteemed Texan is also a member of the CopTalk
  leadership team, a Christian organization serving men and women in
  law enforcement; and
         WHEREAS, By generously devoting his time and energy to this
  worthwhile effort, Officer Don Shipp is helping set club members on
  the path to becoming responsible and productive citizens and
  fostering a stronger relationship between the police and young men
  in the community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Officer Don Shipp of the Fort Worth
  Police Department for his contributions to the Boys of Valor Club
  and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success in his
  important work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Officer Shipp as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
