R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, ChildSafe is launching its Cardboard Kids campaign |
|
in Del Rio on April 7, 2017; and |
|
WHEREAS, A community-wide program, Cardboard Kids was |
|
established to heighten awareness about child abuse and neglect; |
|
individuals, civic groups, schools, and businesses can join in this |
|
effort by decorating and displaying two-foot-tall cardboard |
|
cutouts of children, which represent abused and neglected children |
|
in the community; and |
|
WHEREAS, Thousands of Cardboard Kids were distributed in |
|
2016; during this year's observance, sponsored by Valero Energy |
|
Foundation, participants will take their cutout to prominent |
|
locations, and they can also share photos on social media to begin |
|
conversations about this urgent matter; and |
|
WHEREAS, Across the country, five children die of abuse every |
|
day; as a children's advocacy center, ChildSafe works to protect |
|
the lives and well-being of youngsters who have been maltreated; it |
|
provides a safe, child-friendly environment where law enforcement, |
|
child protective services, prosecutors, and medical and mental |
|
health professionals can share information and coordinate |
|
strategies sensitive to the needs of each unique case and child; and |
|
WHEREAS, Children are the Lone Star State's most precious |
|
resource, and the Cardboard Kids initiative is helping to inform |
|
and educate the public about an issue of critical importance; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the launch of the 2017 ChildSafe |
|
Cardboard Kids campaign in Del Rio and extend to all those |
|
participating in this important project sincere best wishes for a |
|
successful program; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for ChildSafe as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
