R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Jim Davenport, Jimmy Marquez, and Alan Johnson of
  Student Veteran Services at the University of North Texas have
  demonstrated remarkable skill and exemplary commitment in serving
  military veterans who are attending the university; and
         WHEREAS, Student Veteran Services helps individuals who have
  served in the U.S. armed forces make a seamless transition to
  college life, earn a degree, and establish themselves in their
  chosen field; the office offers such programs as individual and
  group counseling, the SALUTE Veterans National Honor Society for
  student veterans, and training sessions to increase faculty and
  staff understanding of issues that veterans face and ways in which
  they can assist in veterans' academic and professional development;
  the office also sponsors an annual Veterans Day celebration on
  campus; and
         WHEREAS, These three members of Student Veteran Services are
  uniquely knowledgeable about veterans' experiences by virtue of
  their own military service; Mr. Davenport and Mr. Marquez were both
  staff sergeants in the U.S. Army, where they served for 20 years and
  13 years, respectively; Mr. Davenport worked with various units,
  while Mr. Marquez served with the Regimental Special Troops
  Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment; Mr. Johnson, a four-year army
  veteran, served as a specialist in the 1st Battalion, 325th
  Airborne Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division; and
         WHEREAS, By connecting veterans and their families with
  invaluable resources and by offering critical moral support, this
  trio of dedicated staff members is helping a vital segment of the
  student population at UNT to thrive in the college environment and
  to prepare for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Jim Davenport, Jimmy Marquez, and Alan
  Johnson for their work with Student Veteran Services at the
  University of North Texas and extend to them sincere best wishes for
  continued success in their important endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
  for Mr. Davenport, Mr. Marquez, and Mr. Johnson as an expression of
  high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
