R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The year 2016 marked the 25th anniversary of Texas
  Area Health Education Center East; and
         WHEREAS, Founded in 1991 by The University of Texas Medical
  Branch at Galveston, the center now operates nine regional offices,
  serving 111 counties and more than 18 million people in the eastern
  part of Texas; in addition to promoting health career education and
  training, Texas AHEC East focuses on placing health care
  professionals in communities where they are most needed; it also
  offers programs to enhance health literacy and assist
  municipalities in evaluating local health systems and tailoring
  them to better meet regional needs; and
         WHEREAS, Texas AHEC East is one of three such organizations
  in the statewide AHEC network and part of a national network of
  similar groups; these initiatives are unique among state-supported
  health science center-based health improvement endeavors, as they
  collaborate with a wide range of partners, including schools,
  health care facilities, health professionals, local and state
  agencies, and other health-related organizations; and
         WHEREAS, For a quarter century, Texas AHEC East has played a
  vital role in increasing access to high-quality health care in the
  region, and it is indeed a pleasure to recognize the center for its
  contributions; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 25th anniversary of Texas Area
  Health Education Center East and that all those associated with the
  organization be extended sincere best wishes for continued success
  with their important work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the center as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
