R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Katy Independent School District celebrated the
  opening of the new Catherine Bethke Elementary School in the fall of
  2016; and
         WHEREAS, Recognizing the rapidly growing population in the
  area, Katy ISD began the construction of Bethke Elementary in 2015,
  and when the school officially opened its doors on August 22, 2016,
  it welcomed some 500 young Texans in kindergarten through fifth
  grade; and
         WHEREAS, This state-of-the-art facility features 48
  classrooms that can accommodate approximately 1,000 students, as
  well as science labs, outdoor learning areas, an amphitheater, and
  a rock-climbing wall; moreover, the school employs the latest in
  technology, including tablets and smart boards, and uses learning
  equipment designed to better serve students with special needs; and
         WHEREAS, The campus was named in honor of Catherine "Gigi"
  Bethke, who led a distinguished career with Katy ISD that spanned
  more than three decades; she began her tenure teaching kindergarten
  and first grade at Williamsburg Settlement Elementary School and
  later served on the faculties of Diane Winborn, Roosevelt
  Alexander, and Sue Creech Elementary Schools; in 2006, she was
  named Creech Elementary Campus Teacher of the Year and Walmart
  Teacher of the Year, and she was a finalist for Katy ISD Teacher of
  the Year; now retired, Ms. Bethke continues to contribute to the
  district as a part-time gifted and talented assessment proctor and
  as a substitute teacher; and
         WHEREAS, Under the leadership of principal Carrie Lowery,
  Bethke Elementary reflects Katy ISD's ongoing commitment to
  providing area schoolchildren with a solid educational foundation
  on which to build, and it is a welcome addition to the district and
  to the greater community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the opening of Catherine Bethke
  Elementary School and extend to all those associated with this fine
  institution sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
