SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 100
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Elva Longoria Cortez
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Elva Longoria Cortez, who died
  December 31, 2014, at the age of 69; and
         WHEREAS, Elva Cortez was an exemplary citizen who was
  widely admired for her achievements and her many contributions to
  her community; and
         WHEREAS, She and her beloved husband, Richard Cortez,
  raised four children, Rick, Jay, Sandy, and Laura, who were a
  source of much pride and joy for her; she was blessed with 11
  grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced her faith in her
  daily life, Mrs. Cortez demonstrated her generous spirit by
  delivering toys during the Christmas season to needy children
  across Hidalgo County; she also served on the boards of the
  Mayor's Prayer Luncheon and the Salvation Army; and
         WHEREAS, A woman of strength, compassion, and kindness,
  she gave unselfishly to others, and her humility, her wisdom, and
  her forgiving nature will not be forgotten by those who were
  privileged to share in her life; and
         WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother,
  and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
  her family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere
  condolences to the bereaved family of Elva Longoria Cortez; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Elva Longoria Cortez.
