Elva Longoria Cortez |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
|
commemorates the life of Elva Longoria Cortez, who died |
|
|
December 31, 2014, at the age of 69; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Elva Cortez was an exemplary citizen who was |
|
|
widely admired for her achievements and her many contributions to |
|
|
her community; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, She and her beloved husband, Richard Cortez, |
|
|
raised four children, Rick, Jay, Sandy, and Laura, who were a |
|
|
source of much pride and joy for her; she was blessed with 11 |
|
|
grandchildren; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced her faith in her |
|
|
daily life, Mrs. Cortez demonstrated her generous spirit by |
|
|
delivering toys during the Christmas season to needy children |
|
|
across Hidalgo County; she also served on the boards of the |
|
|
Mayor's Prayer Luncheon and the Salvation Army; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A woman of strength, compassion, and kindness, |
|
|
she gave unselfishly to others, and her humility, her wisdom, and |
|
|
her forgiving nature will not be forgotten by those who were |
|
|
privileged to share in her life; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, |
|
|
and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by |
|
|
her family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere |
|
|
condolences to the bereaved family of Elva Longoria Cortez; and, |
|
|
be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
|
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
|
memory of Elva Longoria Cortez. |
