SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 54
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council, which |
|
|
is celebrating 50 years of service on August 2, 2017; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council |
|
|
was formed in 1967 as one of the state's 24 regional councils of |
|
|
government; the voluntary association promotes cooperation among |
|
|
the local governments of Cameron, Hidalgo, and Willacy Counties |
|
|
to improve the general welfare of the region; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, With a combined population of over 1.2 million |
|
|
residents, the Lower Rio Grande Valley is one of the |
|
|
fastest-growing regions in the country; the council promotes a |
|
|
strong economy by establishing studies and strategic plans that |
|
|
guide approaches to development, ensure efficiency in governance, |
|
|
and encourage public-private partnerships in regional planning |
|
|
endeavors; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For five decades, members of the council have |
|
|
worked diligently to ensure the highest quality of life for |
|
|
residents of the Lower Rio Grande Valley; the council has |
|
|
prepared for the future by developing the 2017-2022 Regional |
|
|
Strategic Plan, which prioritizes five primary areas of focus |
|
|
that will foster regional prosperity for years to come; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend the Lower Rio |
|
|
Grande Valley Development Council for contributing to the |
|
|
vitality of the region and extend to all associated with the |
|
|
council best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
the council as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
