SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 39
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Joe Marshall for his many achievements as he approaches
  his 92nd birthday in September; and
         WHEREAS, Joe Marshall was born September 12, 1925; he
  attended high school in Roswell, New Mexico, and he entered the
  United States Army at the age of 18 during his senior year; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Marshall served the nation with distinction
  in World War II, taking part in combat action in Belgium, France,
  Germany, and the Netherlands; and
         WHEREAS, After his military service, he worked in Flagstaff,
  Arizona, and he met the woman who would become his beloved wife of
  69 years, the late Wilma Marshall; they married on July 20, 1947,
  and eventually settled in Abilene, where they both worked as
  educators; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Marshall earned his doctorate and worked
  for 51 years at Abilene Christian College, where he taught
  English and coached the golf team; he is a 60-year member of
  Kiwanis International and served for a time as governor of its
  Texas-Oklahoma district; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Marshall has lived through times and
  experienced events that most people only know through history
  books; he is a beloved and respected member of his community, and
  his accomplishments and generous spirit are a source of strength
  and inspiration to those around him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Joe Marshall on
  his many achievements and extend to him best wishes and
  appreciation for his longtime service as an educator and a
  dedicated Kiwanian; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
