R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Constable David Hill of Montgomery County Precinct 5
  is celebrating the 50th anniversary of his career in law
  enforcement on August 18, 2017; and
         WHEREAS, David Hill became a corrections officer with the
  Texas Department of Criminal Justice in 1967, and the following
  year, he joined the Texas Department of Public Safety and enrolled
  in the police academy; after graduating in 1969, he was assigned to
  the city of Magnolia, in southwestern Montgomery County; and
         WHEREAS, Originally intending to stay only a few years,
  Trooper Hill came to love the area and its people; the feeling was
  mutual, and in 1973, he was named Officer of the Year by the Conroe
  Optimist Club; he further strengthened his bond with the community
  by serving on the board of the Magnolia Independent School District
  from 1979 to 1982; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan was first elected as Precinct 5
  constable in 1982, and he has held the office ever since as the only
  elected constable in the precinct's history; over the course of his
  exemplary 35-year tenure, he has overseen the growth of his
  office's staff from one chief deputy in the early days to 24
  deputies and 2 clerks today; and
         WHEREAS, Constable Hill has also contributed to his community
  as a member and president of the Lions Club and as a founding member
  of the Society of Samaritans, Intercept Ministries, and the
  Magnolia Support Group; in addition, he has given generously of his
  time and talents to the Justices of the Peace and Constables
  Association of Texas, which he has served twice as president and
  which voted him Constable of the Year in 2001; and
         WHEREAS, David Hill's unfailing professionalism and deep
  commitment to protecting and serving the public have greatly
  benefited the citizens of Montgomery County and earned him the
  respect and admiration of his fellow peace officers, and he may
  indeed reflect with pride on his many achievements as he reaches
  this impressive milestone in his career; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Constable
  David Hill on his 50th anniversary in law enforcement and extend to
  him sincere best wishes for continued success in his important
  work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Constable Hill as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
