R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Dionne Mack has been appointed deputy city manager
  of public safety and support services for the City of El Paso; and
         WHEREAS, After earning her bachelor's degree from The College
  at Brockport, State University of New York, Ms. Mack went on to
  receive master's degrees in Africana studies and in library science
  from SUNY Albany; in 1996, she began working as a librarian at the
  Crown Heights branch of the Brooklyn Public Library, and she rose
  through the ranks to become the system's executive director; in
  that role, she oversaw the completion of the Dr. S. Stevan Dweck
  Cultural Center and the opening of the African-American Heritage
  Center, which was subsequently named in her honor; furthermore, she
  helped initiate a partnership with UPS to modernize the transport
  of library materials among the BPL's 60 locations, and in 2008,
  Crain's New York Business named her one of its 40 Under 40; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Mack began her career with the City of El Paso as
  its public library director in 2011; during her exceptional tenure
  in that position, she was instrumental in establishing childhood
  literacy initiatives and in expanding hours of operation at branch
  locations as well as increasing public access to library resources
  and programs, and the library was recognized in 2012 as one of the
  top 10 libraries for children in the U.S. by Livability.com;
  Ms. Mack also played a vital role in a campaign to bring books to
  marginalized areas of El Paso County through the Little Free
  Library project; she later served the city as interim managing
  director of quality of life and as managing director of public
  libraries and parks and recreation, and she was named interim
  deputy city manager of public safety and support services in April
  2017; and
         WHEREAS, Through her leadership, vision, and commitment to
  excellence, Dionne Mack has greatly contributed to the El Paso
  community, and the experience that she has gained is certain to be
  of great benefit as she continues to serve her fellow residents;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Dionne Mack on
  her appointment as deputy city manager of public safety and support
  services for the City of El Paso and extend to her sincere best
  wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Mack as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
