R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Brazosport Cares Food Pantry is celebrating 30
  years of vital assistance to the Brazosport area on September 16,
  2017; and
         WHEREAS, A group of local churches and concerned citizens
  began organizing the Brazosport Cares Food Pantry in 1986, and the
  inaugural board meeting took place on March 16 of the following
  year; the pantry initially operated out of a facility in Clute,
  where it saw 2,000 client interactions in its first year, and it
  relocated to Freeport in 1996; the organization today serves a
  number of communities, including Clute, Freeport, Jones Creek, Lake
  Jackson, Oyster Creek, Quintana, Richwood, and Surfside, feeding an
  average of 400 families each month; and
         WHEREAS, Guided by its mission statement, "Feeding
  Brazosport's hungry through food distribution, education,
  collaboration, and advocacy," the food pantry has also established
  and taken part in a number of outreach initiatives; it has provided
  food to chronically hungry students in Freeport and Jones Creek
  schools and to participants in the Brazosport College Jumpstart
  Workforce program, and its Healthy Options Program for the Elderly
  has helped improve the nutrition and well-being of local low-income
  seniors; and
         WHEREAS, With the worthy goal of alleviating hunger, the
  Brazosport Cares Food Pantry makes immeasurable contributions to
  area residents' quality of life, and it indeed merits special
  recognition for its achievements and service; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commemorate the 30th
  anniversary of the Brazosport Cares Food Pantry and extend to all
  those associated with the organization sincere best wishes for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the food pantry as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
