R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Guadalupe Chavez of Lamesa celebrated her 105th |
|
|
birthday on July 26, 2017, in the company of family and friends; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Born in Oakville in 1912, she married Ezekiel |
|
|
Chavez, and they became the proud parents of five children; |
|
|
Mrs. Chavez helped support her family by working as a seamstress, |
|
|
and she also raised Chihuahua dogs; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Chavez moved to Lamesa in 1951, and |
|
|
they shared many happy years together before his passing in 1990; in |
|
|
2016, the city recognized Mrs. Chavez by proclaiming July 26 as |
|
|
Guadalupe Chavez Day; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Since 2010, Mrs. Chavez has resided at Sage Healthcare |
|
|
Center, where her kind and cheerful nature brighten the days for staff |
|
|
members and fellow residents alike; she is the treasured matriarch of |
|
|
a very large extended family that includes 37 grandchildren, 92 |
|
|
great-grandchildren, and 164 great-great-grandchildren, as well as |
|
|
two additional generations of descendants; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Guadalupe Chavez has witnessed a panorama of change |
|
|
over the course of more than a century, and she has met life's |
|
|
challenges and opportunities with dignity and grace, earning the |
|
|
deep admiration of all who are privileged to know her; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Guadalupe |
|
|
Chavez on her 105th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes |
|
|
for continued happiness; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mrs. Chavez as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
