R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The members of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Pittsburg |
|
celebrated the 60th anniversary of their church's founding on July |
|
16, 2017; and |
|
WHEREAS, Established in 1954 as a mission of First Baptist |
|
Church of Pittsburg, this notable house of worship became an |
|
independent entity on August 18, 1957; the congregation continued |
|
to meet in the mission building on Mattison Street until 1963, when |
|
it constructed a new sanctuary on Elm Street; after nearly half a |
|
century there, the church moved to its current facility on Loop 179 |
|
in 2012; and |
|
WHEREAS, Since its founding, Emmanuel Baptist Church has |
|
played a vital role in the community, offering its members myriad |
|
opportunities for spiritual growth and fellowship; the church also |
|
takes part in a number of area ministries, providing children with |
|
clothing, school supplies, and backpacks and preparing |
|
Thanksgiving baskets for families in need; and |
|
WHEREAS, The congregation at Emmanuel Baptist has benefited |
|
from the able leadership of a number of dedicated pastors over the |
|
years, and today that tradition of service is continued by the |
|
Reverend Kyle Smith, who assumed the pulpit in 2001; and |
|
WHEREAS, Emmanuel Baptist Church has long served as a source |
|
of inspiration and guidance to those who worship there, and its |
|
continued existence is a testament to the unwavering commitment of |
|
its members and clergy, both past and present; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commemorate the 60th |
|
anniversary of Emmanuel Baptist Church and extend to the |
|
congregation sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
