R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Polk County Criminal District Attorney William Lee |
|
Hon was elected to the Criminal Justice Council of the State Bar of |
|
Texas on July 18, 2017; and |
|
WHEREAS, The council is dedicated to governing the policies |
|
and activities of the Criminal Justice Section of the state bar |
|
association, and it is overseen by a 5-member executive board as |
|
well as 10 elected council members, all of whom are Texas attorneys |
|
with expertise in the areas of criminal law and procedure; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Polk County, Lee Hon graduated from |
|
Livingston High School in 1984 and went on to earn a bachelor's |
|
degree in criminal justice from Sam Houston State University and a |
|
juris doctorate from the University of Mississippi School of Law, |
|
where he distinguished himself as a member of the Mississippi Law |
|
Journal editorial staff and the Ole Miss National Trial Competition |
|
team; and |
|
WHEREAS, After beginning his legal career at the firm of |
|
Campbell DeLong in Greenville, Mississippi, Mr. Hon was appointed |
|
assistant attorney general for the State of Texas in 1994; two years |
|
later, he was named assistant criminal district attorney in Polk |
|
County and soon thereafter became chief of the felony division; in |
|
January 2007, he was installed as the county's criminal district |
|
attorney, and he has greatly benefited his fellow residents |
|
throughout his decade-long tenure in that office; and |
|
WHEREAS, Widely admired in his profession, Mr. Hon has served |
|
as president and chair of the board of the Texas District and County |
|
Attorneys Association, as chair of the board of the Texas Special |
|
Prosecution Unit, and as a member of the board of the Children's |
|
Advocacy Centers of Texas, and he has further distinguished himself |
|
as an author and highly sought-after lecturer; for his |
|
accomplishments, he was presented with the Board of Directors' |
|
Trial Advocacy Award by the Association of Government Attorneys in |
|
Capital Litigation in 2003; and |
|
WHEREAS, Lee Hon is an exceptional attorney and a dedicated |
|
public servant, and he is indeed deserving of special recognition |
|
as he takes on the challenges and opportunities of this new role; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate William Lee |
|
Hon on his election as a member of the Criminal Justice Council of |
|
the State Bar of Texas and extend to him sincere best wishes for a |
|
successful term; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Hon as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
