R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Matagorda County United Way is marking 50 years |
|
|
of service to the area with a golden jubilee celebration on October |
|
|
12, 2017; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Incorporated on June 30, 1967, by a group of area |
|
|
leaders, the Matagorda County United Way is committed to serving |
|
|
Matagorda and Wharton Counties by addressing the most critical |
|
|
community needs; one of more than 1,000 local United Ways |
|
|
throughout the world, the organization accomplishes its work by |
|
|
supporting nonprofit partner agencies with funding, education, |
|
|
training, and other forms of assistance, and at times by |
|
|
establishing programs to address gaps in service that are not |
|
|
currently being filled by other groups; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Matagorda County United Way |
|
|
has seen an increase of nearly 1,500 percent in its annual campaign |
|
|
funds, which go toward programs and organizations that touch the |
|
|
lives of 70,000 people every year; today, it oversees such |
|
|
important initiatives as a disaster relief coordination project, a |
|
|
local FEMA program, a community resource coordination group for |
|
|
families, and a virtual volunteer center that connects agencies |
|
|
with individuals who want to make a difference; the organization |
|
|
also maintains a help line and a directory of human services, and it |
|
|
collaborates with a prescription discount program to provide |
|
|
low-cost drugs to the uninsured; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Matagorda County United Way has made an untold |
|
|
impact in the lives of countless Texans, and it is a pleasure to |
|
|
join in commemorating this significant milestone in the |
|
|
organization's history; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor the Matagorda County |
|
|
United Way on the occasion of its 50th anniversary and commend its |
|
|
supporters and volunteers for their many good works; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the Matagorda County United Way as an expression of |
|
|
high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
