SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 455
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Eleanor Nelson Conrad, who has been named a 2015
  Distinguished Alumni honoree by the Champaign Urbana Schools
  Foundation; and
 
         WHEREAS, Eleanor Conrad is a 1942 graduate of Champaign
  High School who has dedicated more than 50 years to public
  service through her exemplary work in the fields of education,
  social justice, and the arts; and
 
         WHEREAS, Her involvement in social justice issues can be
  traced to the 1950s, when she was an active participant in lunch
  counter sit-ins; in addition, she was the first African American
  to be elected foreman of the Dallas County Grand Jury; and
 
         WHEREAS, She has served on the Texas State Board of
  Education, where her hard work and determination had a positive
  impact on public education in Texas; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Conrad has been an important voice for
  progress and equal justice, and it is truly fitting that she
  receive special recognition for her many achievements; now,
  therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby commend Eleanor Nelson Conrad on her many
  contributions to her profession and her community and extend
  congratulations to her on being named a 2015 Distinguished
  Alumni honoree by the Champaign Urbana Schools Foundation; and,
  be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
