R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The 90th birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed a |
|
special occasion, and Joy Smith Jones of Marshall is marking that |
|
significant milestone in her life on June 3, 2015; and |
|
WHEREAS, The only daughter of T. P. Smith Jr. and Eliza Jane |
|
King Smith, the former Joy Smith was born in Marshall in 1925; she |
|
attended public schools in her hometown and graduated from |
|
Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, Virginia; on April 30, |
|
1949, she married Oscar Benjamin Jones Jr. in a ceremony held in |
|
Marshall, and they became the proud parents of three children, |
|
Eliza, Oscar, and Diane; Mr. and Mrs. Jones shared a fulfilling |
|
relationship until his passing in 1989; through the years, her fine |
|
family has grown to include four treasured grandchildren, Alicia |
|
Joy Bacon Willeford, Benjamin Shane Bacon, Taylor Alaine Jones, and |
|
Merrill Elizabeth Jones, as well as two great-grandchildren, |
|
Jackson Shane Willeford and Samuel Michael Willeford; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Jones is gifted at needlework, and she and her |
|
daughter Diane owned a needlepoint shop for several years; a |
|
lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church, she has |
|
participated in mission work in Mexico, and she has given |
|
generously of her time and talents to the hospital, the Red Cross, |
|
Camp Fire Girls, the civic center, and the Michelson Museum of Art; |
|
she is fond of animals and gardening, and she has enjoyed traveling |
|
around the world and visiting with relatives in northern Alabama; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Blessed with a devoted family and admiring friends, |
|
Joy Smith Jones is a source of joy and inspiration to all who have |
|
the great privilege of knowing her and sharing in the richness of |
|
her life; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Joy Smith Jones on her 90th |
|
birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued |
|
happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mrs. Jones as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
