R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Medal of Honor exhibit at the State Capitol in
  Austin is being expanded to include recognition of recipients of
  the Texas Legislative Medal of Honor, the state's highest military
  award; and
         WHEREAS, In November 2014, the State Preservation Board
  opened Above and Beyond: The Medal of Honor in Texas on the ground
  floor of the State Capitol; this handsome exhibition features 91
  winners of the Medal of Honor who were born or who entered service
  in Texas; supplementing the physical display is the Capitol's
  mobile tour platform, which allows visitors to scan the display's
  QR code with a smartphone or other mobile device and access
  additional information via the Internet about each Medal of Honor
  winner, including images, video, and text; and
         WHEREAS, In the near future, the recipients of the Texas
  Legislative Medal of Honor will also be featured in the
  exhibition's digital component; the Legislative Medal of Honor is
  awarded to a member of the federal or state armed forces who was
  born or who has resided in the state and who has demonstrated
  "extraordinary merit," "voluntarily perform[ing] a deed of
  personal bravery or self-sacrifice involving risk of life that is
  so conspicuous as to clearly distinguish the service member for
  gallantry and intrepidity"; the medal's recipients so far include
  soldiers and marines who exhibited uncommon courage in combat
  during World War II, the Vietnam War, and the war in Afghanistan;
  and
         WHEREAS, Eventually, tablet computers will be available at
  the display in the Capitol, allowing visitors without mobile
  devices to access the digital component; the State Preservation
  Board is also updating its website to incorporate this same
  information, which will later become part of a comprehensive
  digital app; in time, the section about the Texas Legislative Medal
  of Honor will include video of recipients or their families
  receiving the medal from the Texas Legislature, as well as
  interviews with recipients, their families, and sponsoring
  legislators; and
         WHEREAS, This exciting, state-of-the-art initiative by the
  State Preservation Board will allow visitors to the Capitol and
  people around the world the opportunity to learn the history of the
  Texas Legislative Medal of Honor and the inspiring stories of its
  recipients, and it helps pay proper tribute to those brave members
  of our armed forces who have earned that notable accolade; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby celebrate the recognition of recipients of the
  Texas Legislative Medal of Honor in the State Capitol Medal of Honor
  exhibit and extend to the staff of the State Preservation Board
  sincere gratitude for their exceptional work on this project; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the State Preservation Board as an expression of high
  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
