R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Tristan Salinas of La Feria won the 27th annual Rio |
|
|
Grande Valley Regional Spelling Bee in March 2015, to the great |
|
|
delight of his family and friends; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, More than 50 students from area elementary and |
|
|
middle schools competed in the spelling bee, and Tristan bested |
|
|
each of his opponents through 13 rounds, ultimately claiming first |
|
|
place by correctly spelling the word "illegible"; with his |
|
|
impressive victory, he earned a championship trophy as well as the |
|
|
right to represent the Rio Grande Valley at the 88th Annual Scripps |
|
|
National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., in May; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Currently a seventh-grader at W. B. Green Junior |
|
|
High School, Tristan advanced to the first round of the regional |
|
|
competition in 2014; he prepared for this year's event by studying |
|
|
more than 1,000 flash cards, dedicating much of his free time to the |
|
|
task; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Tristan Salinas has demonstrated exceptional |
|
|
ability and determination in pursuing his goals, and he is a source |
|
|
of great pride for his loved ones, school, and community; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Tristan Salinas on winning the Rio |
|
|
Grande Valley Regional Spelling Bee and qualifying for the Scripps |
|
|
National Spelling Bee and extend to him sincere best wishes for the |
|
|
future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Tristan Salinas as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
