A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to an optional bad weather policy for public schools. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 25.081, Education Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Subsection (c) to read as follows: |
|
|
(c) The board of trustees of each school district that |
|
|
exceeds the full 7 hours of instructional time required by Section |
|
|
25.082(a) by at least one half hour daily for the full academic year |
|
|
may adopt a policy to credit the additional time to the number of |
|
|
instructional days required by Subsection (a). The excess time may |
|
|
be accumulated in amounts up to but not exceeding ten (10) days each |
|
|
year for days missed due to dangerous or extreme weather |
|
|
conditions. Unused accumulated days for excess instructional time |
|
|
shall not carry over to a school year other than the year in which |
|
|
the time was accumulated. After a district credits each day in |
|
|
accordance with this subsection, the district shall notify the |
|
|
commissioner in writing. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Section 42.005, Education Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows: |
|
|
|
|
|
(a-1) For any school day credited in accordance with Section |
|
|
25.081(c), the daily attendance shall be reported as the quotient |
|
|
calculated under Subsection (a)(1). |

|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
