A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to an optional bad weather policy for public schools.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 25.081, Education Code, is amended by
  adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:
         (c)  The board of trustees of each school district that
  exceeds the full 7 hours of instructional time required by Section
  25.082(a) by at least one half hour daily for the full academic year
  may adopt a policy to credit the additional time to the number of
  instructional days required by Subsection (a). The excess time may
  be accumulated in amounts up to but not exceeding ten (10) days each
  year for days missed due to dangerous or extreme weather
  conditions.  Unused accumulated days for excess instructional time
  shall not carry over to a school year other than the year in which
  the time was accumulated. After a district credits each day in
  accordance with this subsection, the district shall notify the
  commissioner in writing.
         SECTION 2.  Section 42.005, Education Code, is amended by
  adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows:
         
  (a-1)  For any school day credited in accordance with Section
  25.081(c), the daily attendance shall be reported as the quotient
  calculated under Subsection (a)(1).
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
