A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to consent for the donation of blood or blood components by
  a minor.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 162.015, Health and Safety Code, is
  amended to read as follows:
         Sec. 162.015.  DONATION OF BLOOD BY PERSONS YOUNGER THAN 18
  YEARS OF AGE. [A person who is 17 years of age may consent to the
  donation of the person's blood or blood components.] A person
  younger than 18 years of age may not:
               (1)  donate blood or blood components without the
  consent of a parent, managing conservator, guardian, or other
  person who is legally authorized to consent to the person's medical
  care; or
               (2)  receive any compensation from a blood bank for a
  donation of the person's blood or blood components.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
