A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to inclusion of a course on the United States Constitution |
|
|
in the curriculum requirements for public high school students. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 28.025, Education Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Subsection (b-21) to read as follows: |
|
|
(b-21) The State Board of Education shall adopt rules |
|
|
requiring students enrolled in grade level 12 to complete a course |
|
|
on the United States Constitution as part of a district's social |
|
|
studies curriculum. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Section 28.025(b-21), Education Code, as added |
|
|
by this Act, applies beginning with students who enter the ninth |
|
|
grade during the 2015-2016 school year. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
