Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Nominations was held on Monday, May 20, 2013, in the Betty King Committee Room at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 8:00 AM. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted:

 

The following members arrived after the roll was called:  Senator Fraser and Senator Nelson.

 

Senator Hegar moved adoption of the minutes from the previous hearing held on May 13, 2013; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

Chairman Hegar recognized the three nominees to the University of Texas System Board of Regents and asked that they come forward to the witness table.

 

Senator Hinojosa introduced the Honorable Ernest Aliseda, nominee to the University of Texas System Board of Regents, to the committee.

 

Senator Lucio was recognized to provide comments of support for the nomination of Judge Aliseda to be a member of the University of Texas System Board of Regents.

 

Judge Aliseda, Paul Foster, and Jeffery Hildebrand each made opening statements before answering questions from the members of the committee and the Senate.

 

Chairman Hegar recognized Senator Eltife, Senator Seliger, Senator Watson, Senator Whitmire, and Senator Zaffirini, to ask questions of the three nominees.

 

Chairman Hegar announced that the committee would return five minutes upon adjournment of the Senate.

 

At 10:01 AM Senator Hegar moved that the committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

At 12:41 PM Senator Hegar reconvened the meeting. 

 

The three nominees to the University of Texas System Board of Regents were brought back to the witness table to continue answering questions.

 

Chairman Hegar recognized Senator Campbell, Senator Garcia, Senator Nelson, Senator Van de Putte, and Senator Zaffirni, to ask questions of the three nominees.

 

At the conclusion of the question and answer period, Chairman Hegar made closing remarks in regards to the nominees to the University of Texas System Board of Regents.

 

Chairman Hegar announced that a vote would be taken at his desk either later Monday or Tuesday.

 

There being no further business, at 2:41 PM Senator Hegar moved that the committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
