Pursuant to suspension of Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Economic Development was held on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Senator Deuell's Desk.

The chair called the meeting to order at 12:55 PM. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted:

 

The chair laid out HB 1982 and recognized the Senate sponsor, Senator Hinojosa, to explain the bill.

 

Senator Hancock moved that HB 1982 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 2 absent.

 

Senator Deuell moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

The chair laid out SB 1921 and recognized the author, Senator Hegar, to explain the bill.

 

Senator Eltife moved that SB 1921 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 2 absent.

 

Senator Deuell moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

The chair laid out as a matter of pending business HB 1580 and recognized Senator Deuell, in the absence of the Senate sponsor, to explain the bill.

 

Senator Hancock moved that HB 1580 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 2 absent.

 

Senator Hancock moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

The chair laid out as a matter of pending business HB 1297 and recognized Senator Deuell, in the absence of the Senate sponsor, to explain the bill.

 

Senator Deuell sent up a committee substitute; the chair recognized Senator Deuell to explain the difference between the committee substitute and the house bill as engrossed. Senator Deuell moved adoption of the committee substitute; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

Senator Eltife moved that HB 1297 do not pass but that CSHB 1297 be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 2 absent. 

 

Senator Deuell moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

The chair laid out as a matter of pending business HB 722 and recognized the Senate sponsor, Senator Uresti, to explain the bill.

There being no further business, at 1:05 PM Senator Deuell moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
