Pursuant to a notice posted on September 19, 2014, the House Committee on Homeland Security & Public Safety met in a public hearing and was called to order by the chair, Representative Pickett, at 2:10 p.m.

 

The initial quorum call was answered as follows: Representatives Pickett; Fletcher; Kleinschmidt; Sheets; and Simmons.

 

A quorum was present.

 


 

The committee heard invited testimony on current border operations.

The committee heard invited testimony on interim charge #1 to assess the level of preparedness among critical infrastructure entities, state and local emergency planning organizations, first response efforts, and overall coordination of jurisdictions across the state. Include a review of the state's role in preparing, resourcing, and coordinating with local emergency response, specifically in rural areas or areas that depend largely on volunteer response efforts.
