Pursuant to a notice posted on September 25, 2014, the House Committee on Public Education met in a public hearing and was called to order by the chair, Representative Aycock, at 10:07 a.m.

 

The initial quorum call was answered as follows: Representatives Aycock; Davis, John; Deshotel; Dutton; Farney; Huberty; Ratliff; and Rodriguez, Justin.

The committee met jointly with the House Committee on Corrections.

 

Testimony was taken on interim charge #8 (see below).

 

Study the impact of SB 393 (83R) and SB 1114 (83R). Assess the impact of school discipline and school-based policing on referrals to the municipal, justice, and juvenile courts, and identify judicial policies or initiatives designed to reduce referrals without having a negative impact on school safety. (Joint charge with the House Committee on Corrections)
