SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 988
	WHEREAS, When they married many years ago, Detta and Donnie
	Haffelder placed great faith and trust in one another, and they
	have been amply rewarded, as they are now celebrating their 50th
	wedding anniversary; and
	WHEREAS, Lora Detta Gibson and William Donn Haffelder were
	married on June 11, 1963, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in
	Austin; and
	WHEREAS, When introduced to Detta at Barton Springs Pool,
	Donnie was "struck by the thunderbolt" that triggered a 50-year
	love affair; since that day, their love and devotion have only
	grown stronger as together they have experienced the joys of their
	companionship and their great affection for one another; and
	WHEREAS, Detta and Donnie have been blessed with a
	wonderful family; their children, Lisa Haffelder and William
	David Haffelder, and their grandchildren, Austin Kyle Donalson
	and William Dylan Haffelder, have been a source of much pride and
	joy; and
	WHEREAS, After many years of working in different
	professions, both Detta and Donnie ended up working for the Texas
	Senate, where they are respected and beloved by all who have had
	the privilege of knowing them; on the day of their anniversary
	celebration, in keeping with Detta's rule never to leave Texas,
	they have chosen to eat pie at the Blue Bonnet Café in Marble
	Falls in lieu of a world cruise; and
	WHEREAS, The great love, kindness, laughter, and mutual
	affection that Detta and Donnie have shared for these many years
	is truly an inspiration to us all; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
	Legislature, hereby extend sincere congratulations to Detta and
	Donnie Haffelder on their 50th wedding anniversary; and, be it
	further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
	this distinguished couple as a memento of this special day and as
	an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
