SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 227
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in
recognizing the Anti-Defamation League on the occasion of its
  100th anniversary; and
WHEREAS, This invaluable organization has spent the past
century working to eradicate prejudice, racism, and bigotry of
  all forms; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1913 to fight the defamation of the
Jewish people, the league in its early years targeted quotas
limiting the admission of Jews to American colleges and
universities and fought the exclusion of Jews from specific
  neighborhoods and professions; and
WHEREAS, In the 1930s, the league took on the mantle of
fighting for American democracy; responding to the rise of
fascist and nativist groups, it established a research division
that monitored and exposed extremists, an operation that is still
  in existence today; and
WHEREAS, From the 1940s through the 1960s, the group worked
particularly closely with African Americans, helping black
citizens navigate the judicial and legislative systems and
working to expose acts plotted by the Ku Klux Klan; and
WHEREAS, In the 1970s, the league opened offices in Israel
and worked against a boycott of companies doing business with
  Israel; and
WHEREAS, The Anti-Defamation League later launched its A
World of Difference Institute and has helped innumerable
students around the globe learn how to fight bias and hatred; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding organization has spent the past
century defending the downtrodden, regardless of race, creed, or
  religion, and it is highly deserving of praise and recognition;
  now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
83rd Legislature, hereby commend the Anti-Defamation League on
the occasion of its 100th anniversary and extend to its members
