A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to a plan to increase participation in the summer food |
|
|
service program. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Chapter 12, Agriculture Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Section 12.00291 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 12.00291. PLAN TO INCREASE PARTICIPATION IN SUMMER |
|
|
FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM. (a) The department shall develop and |
|
|
implement a five-year plan to increase participation in the summer |
|
|
food service program under 42 U.S.C. Section 1761. The plan must |
|
|
include: |
|
|
(1) methods to increase participation by eligible |
|
|
children; and |
|
|
(2) strategies to increase access to summer meals in |
|
|
rural areas. |
|
|
(b) In developing the plan, the department shall involve any |
|
|
appropriate department advisory committee and shall seek the |
|
|
participation of the Texas Hunger Initiative. |
|
|
(c) Not later than January 1, 2015, the department shall |
|
|
submit to the governor, lieutenant governor, speaker of the house |
|
|
of representatives, and appropriate standing committees of the |
|
|
legislature a report regarding the implementation status of the |
|
|
plan. |
|
|
(d) This section expires September 1, 2018. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
