R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Rebecca Kuang, a senior at Greenhill School in
  Addison, has distinguished herself as one of the most skilled high
  school debaters in the country; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Kuang competes in Lincoln-Douglas debate, an
  event that traditionally emphasizes ethical values and logic; she
  has prevailed at numerous invitational tournaments throughout the
  country, including in New York, Illinois, Georgia, and
  Massachusetts; and
         WHEREAS, She received the Dukes and Bailey Award from the
  National Debate Coaches Association for her regular season
  successes, and in the postseason, she was crowned state champion at
  the Texas Forensic Association tournament; she followed up this
  triumph with wins at the National Debate Coaches Association
  Championships in Nashville and the Tournament of Champions at the
  University of Kentucky; at two of the events, she eloquently and
  persuasively argued for prioritizing rehabilitation over
  retribution in the criminal justice system; and
         WHEREAS, This outstanding young Texan has also helped found
  an organization known as "Debaters Against Sexism," and its goals
  are supported by the National Debate Coaches Association and the
  National Forensic League; she will attend the Edmund A. Walsh
  School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in the fall; and
         WHEREAS, With her drive, dedication, and exceptional
  ability, Rebecca Kuang has joined an elite class of competitors in
  the world of debate, and she may indeed look with anticipation and
  optimism to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Rebecca Kuang on her achievements in
  debate and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Kuang as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
