R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Dumas Noon Lions Club is sponsoring the Dogie
  Days festival from June 12 to 15, 2013, continuing an annual event
  that has supported many notable endeavors in the area for more than
  65 years; and
         WHEREAS, Taking its name from the cowboys' term for the
  calves they herded on cattle drives, Dogie Days was first held in
  1946, with the Dumas Noon Lions Club dedicating the proceeds to the
  Llano Estacado Boy Scout Council and the Camp Don Harrington Scout
  Ranch; and
         WHEREAS, Through the decades, Dogie Days has remained a
  popular attraction; today, it features an enormous town barbecue
  that draws thousands of people as well as a carnival midway, a
  parade, and a raffle for the grand prize of a new vehicle; and
         WHEREAS, Recent Dogie Days events have raised more than
  $70,000 per year, with the funds being used to buy eyeglasses for
  those in need and also to support a range of other worthwhile
  charitable causes, including Leader Dogs for the Blind and the
  Texas Lions Camp; and
         WHEREAS, The celebration is part of the beneficial work that
  has been carried out by the Dumas Noon Lions Club since it was first
  chartered in 1930; under the leadership of current president Milton
  Pax, the club's 200-plus members are dedicated to the motto "We
  Serve," and their work has a positive and far-reaching influence on
  local citizens; and
         WHEREAS, Dogie Days is a fun and much-anticipated
  get-together that reflects the strong community spirit of Dumas,
  and it is sure to be enjoyed by all who attend; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 2013 Dogie Days festival and
  extend to the organizers and participants sincere best wishes for a
  memorable and rewarding occasion; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the club as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
