R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Dr. Bobby B. Lyle, a longtime educator,
  entrepreneur, and philanthropist, is being honored on May 20, 2013,
  with the Human Relations Award by the Dallas Region of the American
  Jewish Committee; and
         WHEREAS, The AJC is a global Jewish advocacy organization
  dedicated to protecting human rights around the world through the
  use of diplomacy, political activism, and media outreach; as one of
  the group's regional chapters, AJC Dallas annually confers the
  Human Relations Award on a leading member of the community who has
  made significant contributions to the betterment of life on local
  and national levels; and
         WHEREAS, After graduating from Louisiana Tech University,
  Bobby Lyle went on to earn a master's degree in engineering
  administration from Southern Methodist University and a doctorate
  from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst; and
         WHEREAS, During his long and productive affiliation with SMU,
  Dr. Lyle served as an administrator before being appointed dean ad
  interim of the School of Business at the age of 29; he played a
  pivotal role in the development of a strategic plan for the School
  of Engineering, and in recognition of his work in helping make it a
  national pioneer in engineering education, the school was renamed
  in his honor in 2008; this outstanding Texan has also served SMU as
  a trustee for more than two decades, in addition to holding a seat
  on the executive board of the engineering school as well as on a
  range of other committees related to university projects and
  interests; he received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1995 and
  was inducted into the Bobby B. Lyle School of Engineering Hall of
  Leaders in 2006; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Lyle has likewise made a name for himself in the
  business world; in 1981, he founded Lyco Energy Corporation, which
  has conducted petroleum and natural gas exploration throughout the
  country, and in 2005, he established a private investment firm,
  Lyco Holdings, Inc.; over the past 35 years, he has formed numerous
  private companies and joint ventures in an array of fields, among
  them the Galleria Dallas shopping center; and
         WHEREAS, Generous in his service to the community, he has
  contributed to such organizations as the Salvation Army, the Circle
  Ten Council of the Boy Scouts of America, the Volunteer Center of
  North Texas, and the Center for Nonprofit Management; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout his public life, this dynamic Texan has
  brought his considerable talent and expertise to bear in all his
  professional and civic-minded pursuits, and this prestigious award
  is indeed a fitting acknowledgment of his outstanding record of
  service; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Bobby B. Lyle on his receipt of
  the 2013 AJC Dallas Human Relations Award and extend to him sincere
  best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Lyle as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
